Perihelion – Improvisation for violin and piano

(Duration 10 – 20 minutes. Shorter still if the piece is performed beginning at Section 2 or 3.)

Commissioned by Heidi Duckler Dance Theater for a variable-length performance of their piece Fish Eyes, Perihelion is an aleatoric, improvisatory piece that builds a dreamlike soundscape. The length of the piece can be altered as needed so the performance may span anywhere from 5 – 20 minutes.

To vary the length in performance, violin and piano must decide either on timings for each improvised section, or on cues (musical or physical) to move to the following segment.

This may be performed with or without amplification.
